Now Playing: Be Prepared
Topic: A Lesson
It's the day after Katrina struck, but days and weeks before we know the total devastation she has wrought. Several news commentators have observed that the City of New Orleans has worried about whether the pumps would work and the levees would hold in the event of a catastrophic event such as this. Yet they apparently made no effort to do the necessary work. The Coast Guard, on the other hand, has lived up to its motto, "Semper Paratus" -- always prepared. They're doing yeoman's work in Katrina's wake, rescuing families from roofs left and right. I do realize that our businesses, whatever they may be, are not apt to be in as serious straits as the Gulf Coast, nor the rescue as dramatic as having the Coast Guard helicopter in. Still, it's not a bad idea to look around to see where we're not prepared, and then take the necessary action.
